ART SHOW TONIGHT!!!

As most of you are already aware, I have been dabbling in oil painting for a little over a year now.  My photography gives me ample subject matter to paint and boy do I have a lot I'd like to paint.....  I am enjoying it tremendously and can see a little progress from my very first painting to the last one I've recently completed.  I still have a long way to go to achieve the level of ease I'd like to complete a successful painting and in discovering exactly the media and subject matter I like most.  But, most of all, I'm having a great time learning all about tonal values, complementary colors, shadows, perspective, and then actually seeing the final result created from a blank canvas.

You can see five of my most recent works at a free art show and reception to be held tonight, Monday, January 12th at 7:00 p.m.  You are hereby cordially invited to attend.  It will be held at the Terrebonne Parish Main Library.  Along with five of my most recent paintings, you also will be able to view my fellow students' work.  These works include paintings which were completed through a grant supported by the Terebonne Parish Consolidated Government's Art Funding project as administered by the Houma Regional Arts Council and the Friends of the Terrebonne public Library.

My works includes the following paintings:

  • Portrait -- "Jesiah" -- I painted my grandson from a photograph I took when he had just finished swimming and was playing "peek-a-boo" with his Sponge Bob towel.
  • Floral -- "Grace"  --  A bird of paradise flower with a little green frog clinging to one of the many stems I painted.
  • Floral -- "Louisiana Beauties"  -- This is a painting of three blooming Louisiana Iris' with a dainty little lady bug on one of the stems.
  • Master's Reproduction -- "The Birds"  --  This is a painting of the famous master painter, Caspar David Friedrichs' "Tree of Crows".
  • Wildlife -- "The Watchman"  --  This is a painting of a Louisiana Brown Pelican perched on a pylon with an oil rig in the background.  With our very delicate coastline constantly put under strain from the oil industry and natural disasters like hurricanes, our wildlife seem to be the only "Watchman" watching our coast and their habitat deteriorate almost to a point of non-existence.

Come on out and enjoy the beautiful art created by some of my fellow painting buddies!

Hope to see you there!

Until next time......"Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler!"
